IOC (I Odid Creallybad)

So I am really not afraid to speak in front of people (if I was I would've picked a bad career), but halfway through I realize I didn't summarize the passage so I talk to myself about that for thirty second. Fast forward to 6:24 for entertainment. Also, now that I'm typing, I realize I basically ignored literary devices. Yikes.

A: Knowledge and understanding of the text or extract
8- What did I do wrong? Well I didn't summarize the passage itself. I summarized the text around it, and gave some context on the author and time period, but if it weren't for the fact that you had read the play, you would have almost no idea what I was talking about.  However, I did use appropriate textual evidence when citing my claims.

B: Understanding of the use and effects of literary features
4- This completely flew out the window. You would think, because it takes up a whole block of the rubric, I would have payed more attention to it. But I didn't. The only literary devices I mentioned were soliloquys and dialogue. However, I did explain their effects (particularly on the audience and interpretation of the text). I also mentioned foils briefly, but did not really go into much depth with that.

C: Organization
8- As a whole I like to think that this IOC was pretty organized. I had a beginning and all of my points laid out in an orderly fashion. However, I did tend to get a little off track at some points or have to circle back in my explanations. I also had a thirty second realization that I forgot to include the summary of the passage, which did definitely not happen in an orderly fashion.

D: Language
6- My language in this IOC was fine. Just fine. It wasn't fantastic, but I also wasn't speaking at a first grade level. I used some bigger vocabulary words, but also said "uh" or "um" a lot, when I should have just paused for a second to collect my thoughts. I did manage to keep talking the whole time too, which is important.

  1. Hey Lily, for some reason the video is unavailable to me on my screen but it just might be an issue with my computer. Although I didn't get to hear your IOC, from what I can see you took pretty detailed annotations on specific points you wanted to analyze. There is also a clear structure to how you went about it, which is seen in how you started with the context and moved on to the main themes you wanted to investigate further. I agree with your point about including more devices, which is something I also struggled with as we had the same passage. For your grading, I think the organization and language are out of 5, but otherwise from what I saw it seems you have a platform to build upon for your real IOC. Good work!
